OECD-ECMT Symposium, Berlin, Germany, 25-27 October 2006

The Symposium on Transport Economics and Policy, organised every three years, was held in Berlin on 25-27 October 2006. The focus was on issues associated with globalization, mobilization and transport. It brought together government representatives, high-ranking officials and experts from universities, research institutes, consultancy services, transport stakeholders and international organisations. The opening remarks were made by the German Federal Minister for Transport, Building and Urban Affairs, Wolfgang Tiefensee, followed by six sessions and plenary discussions. The OECD/ECMT invited ECTRI to have a stand. Angelika Schulz from the DLR Institute in Germany was present on the booth where she provided and disseminated information and brochures on ECTRI.

 

World Congress and Exhibition on ITS, London, United Kingdom,
8 - 12 October 2006

The 13th World Congress and Exhibition on Intelligent Transport Systems and Services was held at ExCeL London on 8 to 12 October 2006. There were 270 exhibitors; 8,000 delegates/visitors from 75 different countries attended. Issues ranged from technical and technological aspects to implementation experiences as well as economic, organisational and societal aspects of ITS. There were Plenary Round Tables and different sessions: European Commission, Strategy, Technical, a Discussion Corner and Technical Visits. ECTRI hired a booth, manned by people from the TRL institute, where a number of brochures and information were available.

European Transport Conference (ETC), Strasbourg, France,
18 - 20 September 2006

The European Transport Conference (ETC) took place in Strasbourg, France, on 18 to 20 September 2006. ECTRI had booked a stand which was manned by Customer Manager Mikko Malmivuo from the VTT Institute in Finland, again as a contribution in kind towards ECTRI association. There were 388 participants. The opening plenary session was given by Zoltán Kazatsay, Deputy General Director, Transport and Energy Directorate-General of the European Commission. Daily plenary sessions were followed by seminars, which were grouped into two major strands: Transport Policy and Operations and Research to improve Decision- Making in Transport.

 

Transport Research Arena (TRA), Gothenburg, Sweden,
12 - 15 June 2006

The Transport Research Arena (TRA) 2006 was on the theme “Cleaner, safer and smarter road transport for Europe”. It focussed on the implementation of the European Research Area in support of a sustainable, more efficient and safer road transport system in Europe. The event was organised jointly by the European Commission, the European Road Transport Research Advisory Council (ERTRAC), and the Conference of European Directors of Roads (CEDR). The ECTRI booth was successfully manned by Tarja Magnusson from the VTI Institute in Sweden. ECTRI’s President, Georgios Giannopoulos, made a presentation on "Road transport contributing to a sustainable society: Vision for the Future" within the plenary session 3 held on 13 June entitled "Road Transport Contributing to a Sustainable Society". Claudia Nobis from DLR, Germany, made a presentation on "URBAMOVE - Urban Mobility Initiative" (ECTRI document issued in May 2005) in the session called "Integrated Mobility Management, part 1"

TRB 85th Annual Meeting, Washington DC, USA, 22 - 26 January 2006

ECTRI was present at the TRB exhibition at the Marriott Wardmann Park Hotel from 23 to 25 January. The main theme of this exhibition was about the launching of the 50th anniversary of the Eisenhower Act creating the National Highway Systems in the USA. The ECTRI booth was well located next to many US DOT or USACE administrations dealing with research. The ECTRI booth had a lot of success during the three days and over 700 ECTRI leaflets were distributed, as well as information about the members.
